Denise’s Flu Prevention Tips

I don’t know about you, but I sure don’t want the flu.  That’s why I thought I would share our prevention tips.  It’s not a glamorous topic, but sure is helpful right about now.  For years we have done a Nasal Cleanse.  We don’t use the packet that comes in the box though.  I use ⅛ tsp. himalayan sea salt instead.  Mix it in the bottle with warm purified or distilled water.  This system works better than a net pot because it is a squeeze bottle.  It seriously flushes the nasal cavity out. Removing any germs that are trying to set up shop in there.  We do this everyday when we are home for the evening.

Prevention is key.  We are not waiting to cleanse until our nose is stuffy or runny.  Since flu season has hit, we have started doing what I call our “Breathing” treatments.  I get my tea kettle with steaming hot water and pour it in a small bowl about one quart.  Quickly add 1 drop each of Lavender, peppermint and eucalyptus essential oils.  Cover your head with a towel and breath deeply through nose and then mouth .  Typically for about three minutes. It will tingle or even burn a little from the steam and oils being so strong.  Kind of the point, kills the remaining germs hanging out in there.  Keep eyes closed!  The oils should be therapeutic grade or medicinal grade.  I like Young Living or Do Terra.

Now this isn’t full proof… no scientific research to say it works.  The nasal cleanse we’ve done for years. I prayed a while back about what else to add to it, and the Breathing Treatment was what came to me.  I believe the two together done vigilantly is truly the only real preventative self defense we have.  We do not get a flu shot as Connor and I have an egg sensitivity… borderline allergy.  Besides, years ago when I did get one I always immediately got the flu. This is what we do instead.  Considering current flu shots are only 10-30% effective against the flu, I figure our way is as good as any.  If you did get the flu shot, I would still do these two prevention tips.  Sure wouldn’t hurt now would it?

I hope this little Flu prevention tip is helpful to you.  If you have any tips you would like to share with our group, please put it in the comments section.  We can all learn and glean from one another.

    1. Linda, That’s wonderful. This added measure with the oils and breathing it in with steam could truly be the key after you cleanse. But, keep up the good work.
